Valproate in Utero May Affect Child's Language

Major Finding: Exposure to valproate in utero was associated with significantly lower expressive and receptive language abilities at age 3 years, compared with exposure to other individual AEDs.

Data Source: A subanalysis of 303 pregnant women taking AED monotherapy in the prospective Neurodevelopmental Effects of Antiepileptic Drugs study
