Not only do sex steroids play a role in developing breast and other cancers, but estrogen exposure has effects on cognition in the brain. Imaging studies of women who have discontinued or remained on hormone therapy, as well as those who have received adjuvant chemotherapy plus tamoxifen, are helping to elucidate the associations between estrogen and cognition, including the so-called chemobrain.
