On neurologic examination, the tongue deviated to the left and the uvula to the right; the woman also had a decreased gag reflex. She showed no evidence of dysphasia, aphasia, or facial asymmetry. These findings suggested a transient ischemic attack (TIA). She was assessed for a possible stroke.
