Sonothrombolysis Using Microbubbles May Be Risky

NEW ORLEANS — The use of microbubble-enhanced sonothrombolysis after administration of tissue plasminogen activator in the management of acute ischemic stroke may result in early recanalization. Although this procedure increased the risk of hemorrhagic transformation in one case-control study, the treated patients did not show an increased risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage.
