The story entitled “AAN: Prior Consent for Anticonvulsant Generic Switch Is ‘Crucial’ to Patients” (Clinical Neurology News, April 2007, p. 6) incorrectly stated the position of the American Academy of Neurology on generic antiepileptic drugs. In its November 2006 position statement on newer-generation anticonvulsant drugs, the Academy states: “The AAN believes that physicians should make every effort to identify when patients may be effectively treated with less-expensive alternatives. However, the discretion for this decision should remain with the prescribing physician and should not be determined by coverage limitations.” CLINICAL NEUROLOGY NEWS regrets the error.
