Continuous EEG Diagnostic of Nonconvulsive Seizure in Coma

WASHINGTON — Comatose patients in the intensive care unit should receive at least 48 hours of continuous video electroencephalography to monitor for nonconvulsive seizures, and noncomatose patients should receive at least 24 hours of such monitoring, Dr. Lawrence J. Hirsch said at the joint annual meeting of the American Epilepsy Society and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society.
